2 legit reasons why you shouldn’t hate on Justin Bieber

This just in: Hating on Justin Bieber doesn’t make you cool. It only makes you a hater.
We took Bebe to see “Never say Never”. The easy explanation would be we went cause she really wanted to see it. The truest explanation would be we went cause I also wanted to see it.
Your opinion of me just went down a few notches? Bummer. Wonder what’ll happen when I tell you that I actually REALLY loved it. I did. And if you’ll stop trying to be ‘cool’, chances are you would too...
Well maybe not love it but in the very least I think you should appreciate the kids story. Here are 2 reasons why...
1. Kid’s good. Really good. Sure he’s not as good as _____ but he’s 16 for crying out loud. Can you honestly say if you’ve never heard his name before and someone showed you a video of him singing in his living room, you’d say ‘Nah, this kid stinks’? Probably not. Seriously, youtube videos of him playing drums as a 3year old and tell me that's not talent but only after you compare it to the videos of you playing with your poop at age 3.
2. He worked hard. I know he hasn’t worked as hard as you or a million other Americans who will never make close to what his dog makes but kid still worked hard. I don’t remember what I was doing when I was 12 but I’m pretty sure I wasn’t constantly practicing, getting beat down in contests and having to deal with TONS of people telling me I’d never make it. Oh yea, I remember, I was picking one nostril and shoving transformers up the other at age 12.
So are you ready now to go drop 12 bones on a ‘never say never’ movie ticket?
Probably not, and that’s okay.
Not writing to promote the movie. I’m just a little concerned at how acceptable its become-even among Christians-to be ‘haters’.
Since when is it okay for us to root for someone to fail?
"Oh, he’s just another stupid untalented teen star that will fade away soon"
Really?
I’m not saying you have to love his music, I’m just saying what’s so wrong with rooting for him? He’s a kid. Someone’s kid. Besides what does hoping someone fails say about our hearts?
Alright fine, you could care less about 'The Biebs' either way. I get it but maybe for you it’s your boss/classmate you root against.
Or your neighbor who got the lucky break. How about that church/business that’s a little more successful than yours? I know you’d never say this out loud but you know that part of you that secretly roots against your friends relationships and hopes they breakup?
Yea, Jesus wants to kill that part of you. Jesus doesn't just want us to not wish bad against people. He wants us to go above and beyond.
Love your neighbor as yourself. Great commandment. Here's one practical way to apply it:
You root for yourself in almost every scenario. Great. Now root for others.
Life’s too short to be a hater.
Once had lunch with a guy who was 5 years younger than me but was doing WAY more in ministry than I've ever sniffed. The whole time I kept thinking, 'its okay, he's young. He'll crash soon'. It didn't sound as 'bad' in my heart as it reads right now, infact it sounded like truth/reality. How wicked is that? Really wicked. I was ashamed and have been fighting since to go out of my way to root for his success because thats the only way to kill jealousy and envy. You celebrate and root for them. What about you? Be honest...
Who is someone you subtly root against in your heart or in other words, someone you need to start intentionally celebrating?
Also, my daughter loves JB. My wife used to love Hanson. What about you, who was your teen heart-throb [guys this is for you too]?
