How to be 7 times more awesome at what you do.

If a year ago I got a 5% on my speaking evaluation, I think I'd at least score a 35% or more right now.

I know it sounds like I'm patting myself on the back but I'm not. By the way that isn't always a bad thing. Seriously, try it sometime.

Reach over and pat yourself on the back. Just make sure no one else is in the room cause you'll look super weird, especially if you did a double pat on the back.

You just tried it didn't you?

You crack me up Buster... but you know what? If you add the secret sauce I'm gonna give you today into your funny stew, you'd crack me up 7 times more than you are now. Guaranteed.

Book it.

If funny is your thing, you follow my recommendation and you'll be 7 times funnier in less than a year.

Or 7 times mom-ier than you are mom-ing now.
Or 7 times dad-ier than you are dad-ing now.
Or 7 times writer-er than you writ-ing now.
Or 7 times ____-er than you are ______-ing now (insert your thing).

7 times Sammy?

Yes. 7 times. Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4...

Alright, I'll stop before you think I'm 7 times more annoying... :)

Really, enough Joshing around. Here it is. You can be 7 times better at whatever you do if you are intentional about this one word.

Coaching.

That's it. Coaching.

I know, I know. That doesn't sound profound but it's true. Coaching will take you further faster than you'll ever go on your own.

I'm pretty sure I'm was just as gifted a year ago as I am today and I work just as hard. The only difference is coaching.

I'm on a team with people who have not only done it longer but are also gifted in ways I'm not. They give me structure. They guide me. They coach me. They consistently and constructively criticize and encourage me every time I speak.

A year ago I would have rolled my eyes at the notion of being coached. Today, I can't thank my coaches enough because I'm a way better communicator because of them.

So there it is, coaching. If you wanna be better, you need a coach.

Every successful person who is doing extraordinary things has a coach.

And no they don't have to be naturally better than you are at what they are coaching you to do.

Tiger Woods has a swing coach who isn't a better golfer than Tiger. Meryl Streep has an acting coach who hasn't won any oscars. Celine Dion has a vocal coach who is probably not a better singer than Celine because if she were, she'd be Celine...

Coaching is not about being under more talent but about being under someone that knows what they are talking about in the area you want to grow in.

I know this doesn't sound very 'super spiritual' and most people will easily dismiss it but just as much as I guarantee that coaching will optimize your productivity, I can guarantee you that you'll never be all God has called you to be without pursuing a relationship with a coach or mentor.

In what area of life would you want to be 7 times more awesome if it was guaranteed?

Also, be honest, no need for false humility, in what area of life can you help someone else be better at what they do?
