(Re) Dear Reader, You Are Not That Special -God.

Life is like a bully.

She’ll push you around, de-pants you in public, slap you in the back of the head, give you the mother of all wedgies, punch you in the nose, eat your lunch, mess up your hair, steal your pocket money, shoot spit balls at you, zap you with the biggest zit on your nose, whip... okay, you get the point.

Life is mean and sometimes you just want to give up.

But it’s okay cause God says you’re not that special. And neither am I...

We are NOT that special and that's a great thing. Before you cyber-stone me to death, let me explain.

I don’t know about you but I usually celebrate tough times in my life by throwing a major pity party for myself.

First I send ‘my life sucks more than yours’ invitation cards to everyone and their mom.
Then I bake a giant ‘woe is me’ cake and hang some ‘nobody ever understands me’ balloons.
I even register for gifts at the ‘if God is so good, why did he let this happen to me’ department store.

Oh, did I mention its a costume party? Who am I you ask? I’m the ‘fairness’ police.
Of course.

And yes I will give a speech. In fact I’ll give many speeches so please fast before coming cause I’m about to serve you a big fat plate of life’s unfairness. Gonna be a feast baby.

Right Jesus?
No.
Why?
‘Cause you’re not that special Sammy’
You’re not.

I know you feel forsaken. You feel like I’ve let you down. I know you are afraid I will fail you.

But please look at my resume...

I’ve been working in peoples lives all through history and I haven’t ever let anyone down.
EVER.

Do you really think you’re so special you’ll be the first?

You really think when its all said and done, the final word will be...

‘God had a good run for thousands and thousands of years until Sammy’?

Or

‘Shoot! Jesus was doing so good too, on a massive roll. He was having the greatest undefeated running streak of all time... until he met Sammy’s problems’.

No.

That won’t be the final word.

Your problem isn’t that grave.
You’re not that special.

You won’t be the one exception to my faithfulness. You won’t be the bleep in my story. You won’t be a blemish in my nature. I AM good. K?

Now clean up after your pity party. Then come to my party.
Its bigger. Larger. Greater.
History is here. The beginning and the end are here. Time is here.
And so are millions of people who have rested in my faithfulness without fail.

I’m not that special.

Those 4 words held me afloat during the hardest season of my life because right when I wanted to give up on God, I looked at history and reminded myself that I wasn’t special enough to be the first person with a problem so impossible for God to engage.

Psalm 9:10:
'Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you except for Sammy Adebiyi'

No. it doesn’t say that.

'Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you' [Period]

In what area of your life do you currently need to remember that you're not that special? [financial...relational...health...academic...marital... etc]

Take a deep breath. God is great and you or your situation are not that special to stump him.

How do you first respond when life gets hard? Do you ever throw a pity party like I do?

Also, how has God proven faithful in your life in tough/impossible/hopeless situations?
