Why the world needs more Christians who put themselves first.

Jesus please, help me be first.
That's been my prayer for a few days now.
I can't tell you how much I'm hoping Jesus will do that work in me. For so long it's always been about others. My sermons have been for others. My ministry has been for others. My dreams have been for others.
But not anymore. I'm making a 180. From now one, I'm putting me first. I'm stepping off the line. I'm raising my hand. I'm pointing at myself.
Me first.
Do work in me first Jesus. Change me first.
Don't get me wrong, when I say do work in me first I don't mean help me live for myself. First, that comes naturally so we don't have to pray for it. Secondly, we know thats unbiblical because it's opposite of what Jesus taught.
When I say do life first I mean go through life determined for God to do in you first what you hope and pray he does in others.
For example, Instead of hoping your spouse meets your deepest desires, what if you said me first? What if you went to God and plead that he would help you met your spouse's deepest desires?
Or Instead of being frustrated that your shallow pastor is not being deep enough, what if you were first burdened by your shallowness?
One more.
By the way, you know why we are so others focused when it comes to change?
It's not because we love others. It's because we are convinced others are the problem with the world and if they would change then the world would be a better place.
You don't have to admit it out loud but you believe that. You do.
You believe that if your spouse would just _____, your marriage would be so much better. If your parents and friends would become ______ and start doing _____ then life will be better.
What I'm proposing is when it comes to what's wrong with the world, church, marriage, friendships and community, rather than think of others first, we ought to think of ourselves first.
And when it comes to wanting a heart change from God, what if our hearts were first?
I know it's gonna be a challenge because it's so easy to live life 'for others'. It's easy to see what you want God to do in them. It's easy to want them to go all in.
But lately I feel like God is showing me that I can't lead others to a place I haven't been to yet.
I can't hope our young adult community worships Jesus with reckless abandon unless I worship with reckless abandon. I also can't hope people don't miss the point of what it means to follow Jesus if I'm missing the point of what it means to follow Jesus.
So I'm praying Jesus helps me be first. I'm praying he does in me first what I hope He does in others.
In other words, I'm looking inward. I'm asking if what I desire to happen in others is first happening in me.
Imagine if we believed this! Imagine if we doing life the me first way! Imagine if our attitude when it cames to problems is "It's all about me"...
Be honest. In what area of life do you need to start putting yourself first? In other words...
What is one thing you've been wanting to see happen in the people around you that you need to start wanting to see happen in your first?
Friends, I think the world needs a 'God, change me first' revolution. Are you in?
